Named after the Gonçalves brothers, Naldo and Victor, NV-80 is a throwback to the 80’s when the duo began business together. Their guests can enjoy the intimate indoor dining, an alfresco balcony for sundowners and a chic centre bar.
And the menu offers diners a variety of the Gonçalves’ favourites dishes from tender Chalmar steaks as well as fresh seafood.
NV-80 is also a prime sundowner spot, boasting both a light and airy Cuba meets Miami-inspired interior – it’s dotted with palm trees and awash with fresh green hues – and a huge alfresco balcony perfect for a few tasty oysters that go down a treat with a bit of bubbly.
Saturday mornings find us at the Farmers Market in Harkerville where Jono does the California Burger he rates as the best to be had in the Garden Route. It’s a delicious hand made pattie with onion, garlic and soya sauce inside. Fresh lettuce, tomato and special California Sauce. All on a fresh bun and served up by Matt de Jongh. Everything is sourced locally and fresh.
At Emily’s we strive to use only the freshest local produce to prepare our delicious daily menu. Our chef team meet every morning to choose the freshest produce available before designing the menu for the day, this menu includes dishes like our Peach Cider Braised Pork belly, Onion Samoosa and Gooseberry Compote; Lamb Rack, Cherry Tomato Feullete and Thyme Red Wine Jus; Fresh Farm Ricotta Phyllo Bake, Honeyed Beetroot and Thyme; Oven Baked Linefish, Brussel Sprout Chips, Caper and Baby Potato Salad. Enjoy a fresh cocktail or a beautiful bottle of wine from the boutique estate wine list while appreciating spectacular riverside views, unforgettable sunsets and a large log fire in winter go without saying.
Breakfasts are served in the sunny glass conservatory and offer a selection of tasty treats to start the day. Light lunches are served in the dining room or on the lawns. The outdoor boma with its comfortable couches and fireplace, invites you to enjoy a high tea or a glass of bubbly as the sun sets over the gardens.
THE CXPRESS Garden Route Culinary Awards took place at beautiful Kurland Estate in The Crags on Monday afternoon, with the who’s who of the ‘hood’s food aficionados in attendance to either receive or hand over prizes.
At the steer of proceedings were Francois Ferreira, head honcho of the South African Chaîne de Rôtisseurs, and Anne Hadley, local foodie supreme and better half of the late Ian Hadley, who started the awards shortly after the turn of the century to acknowledge local service and cooking excellence.
Kurland chef Leon Coetzee and his crew laid on canapés* to die for after the official handover of Top 20 and Legends (those eateries consistently making the Top 20 for three years-plus) certificates, Best Of Plaques and the ultimate prizes of Best Server, Best Wine Steward, Best Young Chef, Best Chef and Special Achiever of 2014 trophies.
Representatives of Plett’s budding wine route ensured that no parched throat went unnoticed and the Kurland team attended to guests’ every other need, showing why they were worthy recipients of this year’s Best Service award.

Go for great pizzas, superb salads (you must try the carrot & beetroot and the spicy Thai) and a fantastically warm and vibrant atmosphere. They have a brilliant kiddies’ play area and on Tuesday’s your kids can make their own pizzas. On Wednesdays and Fridays you can also indulge in R12 glasses of wine – and NOT from a box, Chris, the owner, offers half price wine and cocktails between 4 & 6. It’s a family-run, family-welcoming place that I’d be happy to take even my mad family to.
From it’s inception Ginger has been committed to offering a fine dining experience. And it has earned a well deserved reputation as one of the best restaurants in the Eastern Cape.
With secure parking and views of the beach they offer a fusion between elegant chic and contemporary fine fare.
Diners can sip their drinks on the deck while relaxing to the sounds and sight of the sea, before either moving inside for their meal, or being served in situ. Indoors, the lower dining area, with its stunning parquet floor, surrounds a central bar, while the upper, carpeted area is adjacent to the open plan kitchen. But wherever one chooses to sit, the views are beautiful, the service is top-rate and the food is a taste bud experience.
Tim Walker is the Head Chef and Jacques Van Rooyen their Sous Chef. Both are extremely talented with extensive experience. The energetic duo share an incredible chemistry in the kitchen by feeding off each other creatively, followed by an infectious sense of humour.
