Two Acres Tearoom

This weather calls for comfort food. We found some this morning, freshly baked at Two Acres Tearoom. Brioche and Butter pudding with orange mascarpone Yum.

Bread and Butter pudding

Two Acres Tearoom can be found just off the main road to Assagay. They grow many of the items they serve, and in season, the vegetable and herb garden supplies a large percentage of their fresh produce . You can buy free range eggs, stone-ground artisan bread, cakes and other delicacies. They also offer a High Tea with sweet and savoury delicacies.

Chicken livers

An acquired taste, chicken livers certainly have those who love them and those who turn their faces away.

I challenge anyone in Knysna to turn a nose up at the most delectable chicken liver starter ever tasted.

Food is not just about the eating, it is about the look and the smell, the way it is placed in front of you and of course about the taste. The attractive and delicate presentation of these sherry marinated livers on a bed of superbly prepared pastry is a mouth-watering sight, and the experience of the tasting, well you just have to try it.

I must say I have never had an unpleasant meal, cup of coffee or service at Cruise Cafe.

Luciano Pavarotti was right when he said “One of the very nicest things about life, is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating”.

The Seven Passes Road

Day drives from Knysna
We just love stunning, hidden gems like Bistro Celeiro. The venue and views from the ‘stoep’ is spectacular and the food – delicious home cooked meals prepared by friendly owners with care for details and exquisite tastes, and great value for money. Bring your own wine and you’ll have an unforgetable time with friends, family or just yourself…

This is a lovely ‘hidden gem’. Homemade food with local and organic ingredients. The setting is beautiful, with stunning mountain views. Susan and Julio are the perfect hosts, friendly and personable. We love it!

Wild vegetables

I am not sure what this is. It is apparently Chaem. But more than that I do not know.

Fresh wild vegetables Thailand

That is other than the fact that it is crisp, has a slightly sweet taste and is delicious when eaten fresh with Nam phrik kapi

Coffee in the garden

Going out for coffee is precisely that. It is about the setting. What you are doing whilst sitting back and doing different.

Takeaway cardboard cups and plastic lids don’t do it.

Cornish ales

Cornwall is a popular, must do destination for visitors to the UK. As is the traditional hospitality, pub food and real Cornish ales found at one of the oldest pubs in the UK, The Crown Inn Lanlivery.

Lebanese restaurants – Portsmouth

Unassuming and unpretentious it would be easy to miss the Cedar Lebanese Restaurant opposite the Kings theatre on a busy part of Albert Road, in Portsmouth.

But once you step through the door there is no mistaking the traditional Lebanese music, authentic tasty food and outstanding hospitality and service.

Fresh homemade humous and mezze Portsmouth Hampshire

The traditional menu offers a breakfast selection featuring zaatar manoushe.  Given that I am not that familiar with Middle Eastern traditions and that they open at one in the afternoon and close at one in the morning, I didn’t dare ask.

There is a limited but good selection of salads, hot and cold mezze as well as charcoal grilled dishes, platters, wraps and sweets to round the meal off.

But be warned the portions are generous and if you have an eye for the desserts don’t overdo it.

Ham egg & chips

Traditional favourites like ham egg and chips are not difficult to find

Best English pubs

Which is why the Duke of Wellington in Southampton is worth a visit. It was one of the first pubs I ‘found’ after arriving in the UK and I have been back more than once.

Best pubs in Hampshire

For what is definitely one of the best pub lunches in Hampshire if not a lot further afield. Besides that, it is one of a few typically traditional English pubs where I am perfectly comfortable settling in with a newspaper.

Travel Bugs Breakfast

When in George I invariably end up at Travel Bugs. They serve Lavazza coffee and there is always something out of the ordinary to try off their menu.

Best breakfast the Garden Route

This time I ordered their breakfast wrap and I was not disappointed. It was a perfect balance between egg, chorizo, cheese and cherry tomatoes. I couldn’t have asked for a better breakfast.
